The number of Suzhou’s potential unicorn enterprises stands at 108, an increase of 44% over last year, accounting for 13.8% of the country’s total, ranking 1st in Jiangsu Province and 3rd in the country, according to a research report on China’s potential unicorn enterprises recently released by Greatwall Strategy Consultants (GEI).
Potential unicorn enterprises, which are considered to have promising future prospects, play an important role in leading scientific and technological innovation, opening up new fields and new tracks for economic development, and fostering new growth momentum and advantages. The number of potential unicorns representing new quality productive forces is an important indicator to measure regional innovation vitality.
In recent years, Suzhou has made remarkable achievements in expediting the cultivation of unicorn and potential unicorn enterprises. On Sept. 24 this year, the Productivity Center of Jiangsu Province released the 2024 list of provincial-level unicorn and gazelle enterprises. There are 32, 220, and 486 Suzhou-based enterprises selected as unicorn enterprises, potential unicorn enterprises and gazelle enterprises in Jiangsu, accounting for 40%, 51%, and 36% of the province’s total respectively, which have been ranked first in the province for three consecutive years. Among them, the number of provincial-level unicorn and potential unicorn enterprises selected this year increased by 88% and 27% over the previous year respectively, entering a phase of leapfrog development.
On June 16 this year, GEI released the “China Unicorn Enterprise Research Report 2024” at the 2024 China (Chongqing) Unicorn Enterprise Conference. The report showed that the number of unicorn enterprises in Suzhou increased by 1 to reach 18, ranking 1st in the province and 6th in the country for two consecutive years.
In the future, Suzhou will continue to attach importance to the cultivation and development of innovative enterprises and strive to ensure full implementation of supporting measures and create an environment conducive to the growth of sci-tech enterprises, so as to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces.
